Welcome to Ouzo & Olive Oil

These recipes are a blend of traditional Greek dishes, Midwestern comfort foods, and a modern take on both. There’s something about sitting down to enjoy a good meal with those you love that’s truly healing for the soul. And with a house full of four young kids, our table is always full of love, laughter, and chaos.

Greece has a culture so entwined with its food there is no way to have one without the other. And while the Greek recipes you’ll find here may not be exactly the way γιαγιά made them, they are all meant to pay homage to the traditional meals and flovors from the χωριό.

Good food can create joy and connection with other people to help ease the stresses of life and inspire more carefree moments.

Behind the recipies

Are you even Greek?

The short answer is, no. I was born and raised in a small town in the Midwest. Our dinner table was full of love and casseroles and comfort food that I crave to this day. The closest I came to Greek cooking growing up was a small bottle of olive oil in the pantry that would last us for months and crumbled feta in the fridge.

My husband, on the other hand, is undeniably Greek. When I met my husband, I couldn’t understand why anyone would possibly need multiple kinds of olive oil and so much of it. My confusion didn’t last long as I dove head first into Greek culture, which cannot be separated from the vibrant, flavorful food of Greece.
